Micro Shorts: Micro Trend?

Micro Shorts are all the rage right now, but will they last? From Brandy Melville to Free People to being spotted on celebrities, even Walmart has a pair for sale, these shorts are everywhere. Well everywhere except for on your legs. Micro shorts have become a popular fashion choice for those looking to beat the heat in style, offering a sleek and minimalist look. For those who don’t know what micro shorts are, I’ll explain. The name is pretty much self explanatory. Imagine the tiniest shorts you can, and then make them just a little bit smaller. This article of clothing is for male gym teachers from the 80’s, the girls who rolled their private school skirt over 100 times, and super models.

As summer approaches these cute trendy pants (or lack there of) are sure to be a hit item. We can see them being styled with a baby tee, tank tops, bikinis, and more. From boots to kitten heels to sneakers, you really can’t go wrong. Perfect for showing off those summer-ready legs, micro shorts are a must-have for beach days and outdoor adventures. We also see a rise of knit clothing as talks about sustainability and DIY are on a rise as well. Knit micro shorts might just be my favorite take on both these trends. They are so summery it’s hard not to be obsessed with them!Whether you prefer classic black or vibrant patterns, micro shorts add a playful twist to any wardrobe, making them a favorite among fashion enthusiasts worldwide.

But will they last? Trends now a days come and go faster then Pete Davidson’s girlfriends. While I could go on and on about the sustainability issue of that, I choose to stay focused on how it will affect this Micro Short Trend. This has been a long time coming since Kendall Jenner’s “no pants red carpet look” where she showed off her legs in tights and a body suit. I have definitely noticed a huge rise in the wearing of micro shorts, but not a lot of attention to them on social media. Recently we have had a huge issue of trends being talked about online (mob wife, tankinis, etc) but never actually becoming reality. Due to the lack of social appearances micro shorts have been making, I think this means that we can avoid the sudden and short burst of low quality, cheaply made shorts and simply enjoy how cute they are. Micro shorts will definitely be seasonal to summer, but I feel there is a chance that as the weather starts to get colder in the fall we will see layering with tights, tall boots, and jackets to adapt.

Now that we’ve discussed just how cute micro shorts are, let’s talk about what everyone is thinking. CHAFING. I mean unless you have no thigh gap (which hasn’t been a thing sing idk like 2016) it seems a little inevitable. While micro shorts are so cute and look so aesthetic on the super thin girl on your Pinterest feed, they are not the most inclusive article of clothing. As previously mentioned chafing has got to be the number one issue, so if this is something you experience I recommend staying away from this trend. Society is also gonna be a top issue with these itty bitty teeny weeny shorts. It’s not breaking news that society does not like to see cellulite, love handles, hip dips, whatever. You name it, society hates it. There can be an endless amount of body positivity movements but there will still be comments on social media like “wish I had this confidence!” While I don’t think this should stop anyone from wearing whatever they want to wear, it can not go unsaid with this trend. Micro shorts are clearly made for a micro demographic. But hey, if your high school gym teacher can wear them you can too! So go out and rock whatever length shorts you want, because at the end of the day if you’re happy and comfortable in your skin, then you’re gonna look good.
